Good thing pinto beans smell ok...

The sleepiness, the off-and-on nausea, the inexplicable need to make upwards of 3 bathroom trips a night (already!) None of it compares to my new super-human ability to smell. Jealous? Don't be. Having a super-schnoz is nothing to brag about.

I recently celebrated my 5-year anniversary with my employer. They were amazingly gracious in throwing me a party at work, complete with the most gorgeous flowers you've ever seen. Oh, and cake, and balloons, and champagne (which I awkwardly avoided by taking a tiny sip and setting down - not obvious at all, sheesh).

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the flowers were mostly day lillies. You know the ones -- they're pink and beautiful, oh...and they have this heavily-perfumed, knock-you-over-with-their-sugary-sappy scent. It was beautiful, and gag-inducing at the same time. I had to set them out in the hallway at work, and then complained at home that I could smell them at the opposite end of the house.

Just today, landscapers were working at one of my client's offices, and I caught a whiff of fresh mulch the instant I exited the building. You know it, the I-just-stepped-into-a-pig-pen fresh mulch smell? *shudder*

Whether it's food cooking, perfume or mother nature -- ladies and gents, I'm choking on everything that wafts its way into my nostrils. Let's hope this is the worst of it now, and that things get better. It will, right? Right?

It's official...but still a secret

We're pregnant! Who ever thought that two simple words could hold so much emotion. Elation...excitement...fear. (Not to mention the exhaustion, nausea, lack of solid sleep and emotional rollercoasters.)

As of this past weekend, we're 8 weeks along (he/she's a pinto bean, an upgrade from last week's blueberry status), and we're beginning this blog before anyone knows. In a way, it's therapeutic -- my ability to feel like I'm not just keeping it all a big secret.

We've been to the doctor and everything looks healthy and normal at this early stage, so now it's just playing the waiting game until we can finally tell our family, friends and co-workers what may just be the biggest news we'll ever share with them.

For a first-time preggo, I'm hoping this blog will be an engaging and fun way to keep distant friends and family up to date on the latest and greatest changes and symptoms.

Enjoy!
